2024 Festival Highlight: The Lauriston Bar

Glasgow Building Preservation Trust’s new Development Officer, Daniel Brown, delivered a wonderful event on the history of one of Glasgow’s most beloved boozers, The Laurieston Bar. Taking place in the convivial wood clad interior, which features on the CAMRA Inventory of Pub Interiors of Outstanding Historic Interest, Daniel took us back to the 1960s to explore the bar’s unique history, its relationship to the Gorbals and the stories of those who frequented it over the years.

The Laurieston became a listed building in 2010 for its well-preserved historic design which includes distinctive tiling, retro signage and fully intact Formica furniture. Historic Environment Scotland describes it as “an excellent example of 1960s public house design of which very few examples are thought to remain today.”  We highly recommend a visit to this unpretentious gem as the perfect antidote to the dreigh, autumnal weather.
