The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow has existed since 1599, bringing clinical specialities together to support healthcare professionals and improve patient care. Since its foundation, the College has held residence at several buildings throughout the city centre, from Blackfriars Kirk to the Trongate to St Enoch’s Square. The College’s current building at 232-242 St Vincent Street has been our residence since 1862.
Originally, there was only one building on this site, a mansion built in the 1820s that belonged to Glasgow merchant Robert Blair. However, as the College expanded over time, it gradually extended its headquarters and purchased the neighbouring mansions on the block.
