Civic House and Glue Factory
Join Agile City and Collective Architecture on a Retrofit Campus tour. Explore Civic House and Glue Factory, and learn how both post-industrial buildings have been retrofitted to become energy producing ‘micro power stations’. We will start the tour by hosting a short introduction on the local history of Port Dundas and Pinkston as renowned industrial power centres, and reflect on the transitions the area has gone through since the victorian era: mass demolition and the construction of the M8, to the contemporary need to decarbonise our built environment. As you are guided through the spaces, learn more about each building’s unique history: Civic House, once an early twentieth century printing press for worker and activist groups, and Glue Factory, a former 19th century fizzy drinks factory, designed with input from Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Learn about our award winning process of retrofitting these heritage sites with input from leading architects Collective Architecture, and how these methods are essential to drive our buildings and cities towards net zero.

EXIT is a fully operating DIY, independent and artist run club and arts space which was opened in September 2023. The building on Maxwell St was once home to Fury Murry’s in the late 80s and 90s, and then repurposed into a strip club. The space has a lot of character, with the majority of the strip club interiors remaining largely intact. EXIT has a strong DIY ethos, platforming and growing the local scene and creative community here in Glasgow.
