Roystonhill Spire
The Roystonhill Spire was saved from demolition by the Rosemount Development Trust in the year 2000. While a considerable portion of the building was demolished, the Spire was saved and continues to stand at one of the tallest points in Glasgow. While the main body of the church was not saved, the historically important stained glass by William Morris was saved as in now in the Glasgow City archives. Our event will cover a deep dive into the history of “The Garngad”, now Royston, covering everything from its medieval origins to the plague, significant Irish immigration, the St. Rollox Chemical Works, and the sectarian unrest of the 1930s. Exploring social conditions in the 18th and 19th centuries, our Community Development Officer, award-winning historian Andy Cuthbertson, will put on two talks, bookable at our website, that cover the history of the area. The first talk will take place at 12:30, and the second will take place at 2:30pm. There will also be family activities, free tea and light refreshments provided by the Trust, and pop-up exhibitions that go into the history in more detail.

EXIT is a fully operating DIY, independent and artist run club and arts space which was opened in September 2023. The building on Maxwell St was once home to Fury Murry’s in the late 80s and 90s, and then repurposed into a strip club. The space has a lot of character, with the majority of the strip club interiors remaining largely intact. EXIT has a strong DIY ethos, platforming and growing the local scene and creative community here in Glasgow.
