St. Ninian’s Episcopal Church
Come and visit St Ninian’s! Designed by David Thomas in the Neo-Gothic style, it was built between 1872 and 1877 on land given by Sir John Maxwell. It was the first Episcopal church to be built on the south side of Glasgow, and the first church to serve the new suburb of Pollokshields. It is now a Category B listed building. As part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, St Ninian’s building and worship reflect elements from a wide range of Christian traditions. We have always been a home for new Glaswegians, and continue to welcome members from around the world. In 1877 the marriage of Jessie Nimmo Armour and Andrew Watson took place: Andrew, born in British Guiana, went on to captain Scotland’s football team and in doing so became the first Black international footballer in the world. When you visit you will be able to read some life stories from our present congregation, who will share their reasons for coming to St. Ninian’s.

EXIT is a fully operating DIY, independent and artist run club and arts space which was opened in September 2023. The building on Maxwell St was once home to Fury Murry’s in the late 80s and 90s, and then repurposed into a strip club. The space has a lot of character, with the majority of the strip club interiors remaining largely intact. EXIT has a strong DIY ethos, platforming and growing the local scene and creative community here in Glasgow.
