The Alasdair Gray Archive and The Agnes Owens Archive
An opportunity for you to explore The Alasdair Gray Archive with a tour led by its Custodian, Sorcha Dallas. When you visit the Archive it is like walking into Alasdair’s front room with all the objects & items that surrounded him, many of which feature in his work. It holds both Gray’s family collection as well as recent acquisitions & donations acquired by the Archive. All this material is held here for research & learning purposes which you will be able to handle when you visit. In 2023 the Archive extended its footprint taking over a next doors space where we have installed Gray’s complete private library alongside The Agnes Owens Archive. You will be able to explore both before they open to the public later in 2024 and hear from our Collaborative Doctoral Research students Lauren Forde and Laura MacDonald about their exciting new discoveries on both Gray and Owens work funded through Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities. It will be a tactile and creative experience offering a unique insight into our growing collection, not to be missed!

ORGANISATION
Organised by: The Alasdair Gray Archive
Alasdair always worked within the domestic sphere. His flat was full to the brim of books, artworks, objects, studio ephemera and furniture that had been found or gifted to him. This has been recreated at AGA, alongside his collection of artworks, sketches and drawings, his original prints made with Glasgow Print Studio and Edinburgh Printmakers, a section of his personal library, all Gray publications (including those he designed for others) as well as a section of literary papers, photographs and correspondence all held there for research & learning.

EXIT is a fully operating DIY, independent and artist run club and arts space which was opened in September 2023. The building on Maxwell St was once home to Fury Murry’s in the late 80s and 90s, and then repurposed into a strip club. The space has a lot of character, with the majority of the strip club interiors remaining largely intact. EXIT has a strong DIY ethos, platforming and growing the local scene and creative community here in Glasgow.
