This is a tale of two towns … the stone built religious heart of Glasgow in the north of the town and the bustling burgh in the south.
Medieval Glasgow began with the building of it’s Cathedral in 1119 – today the landscape of the buildings such as the Old Pedagogy, Bishop’s Castle, Old College and the Friaries, which once dominated the High Street, now lie beneath Glasgow’s Victoria architecture and new developments.
To showcase some of the area’s rich heritage we have installed several Heritage Banners, Plaques and Panels along the length of the street. This trail provides a glimpse of this hidden past by showing you the people, places and events which took place along the street across 1500 years.
We’d love to keep in touch to send you updates, news and reminders about Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival.
Organised by Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, Glasgow Doors Open Days is part of a family of Doors Open Days events taking place across Scotland throughout September, coordinated nationally by the Scottish Civic Trust.
