Springburn Auditorium

dod2023
The Auditorium is a bespoke upcycled venue built to provide local people with a platform to feel heard, learn and come together to engage in creative activities such as music, film screenings, arts and workshops. What makes our community event space unique is its tiered seating structure made out of upcycled pianos which we have saved from going to landfill. The idea for the seating structure came from our collaboration with Edinburgh’s Pianodrome and Tom Binns of The Piano Project CIC, whose teams we have been honoured to work with in both the design and construction stages of this project. The creative construction process commenced with the piece by piece dismantling of dozens of pianos which were deemed to be beyond repair. We then experimented with various designs until we found the perfect fit for our space. Together, we then continued to build a stage wall also made from pianos, with a grand piano top which can swing open as a door and allow access to the performance area from behind the scenes in a spectacular fashion.
