The Revelator

IMG_7088
Come and visit The Revelator, a wooden, handcrafted circular structure, it is community-built, as a fully-functioning, Wall of Death. It is also a unique nomadic theatre-in-the-round and art space. Created by artist Stephen Skrynka with a group of devoted volunteers, The Revelator is currently located at Barclay Curle, a grade A listed former shipyard in Whiteinch on The Clyde. Combining heritage, identity and story it offers a reconnection and sense of communal pride through making. It is completely made from traditional wooden joints, no nails, and took over 15,000 hours to build. It is wild because it lives and grows unfettered from institutions in its own natural environment and responds to it in a fertile and unhindered manner. It was built by volunteers without permission and completely unfunded by corporate bodies, the wood was paid for from small local donations. It is also designed to be nomadic so it can be dismantled and re-erected elsewhere. When in use as a Wall of Death motorcycles are ridden vertically on the 17 feet high and 30 feet in diameter circular wall with an awestruck audience perched at the top, you climb up to the top and see the space for yourself. There will be no live motorcycle shows at Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival and there will be plenty of ways to engage with this fascinating and beautiful place.
