Diaspora Discs: An Illustrated Talk at Riverside Museum
This talk will explore Glasgow’s bygone record shops which specialised in music of Black and South Asian origin. From the late 1970s to the 1990s the city had scores of record retailers, many of which feature in our Record Shop Display – but few specialised in African, Asian or Caribbean music. More than just music shops, they helped galvanise their communities and beyond, promoting concerts, events and culture. As well as appealing for your memories of these music specialisms, there will also be objects from the museum collection to look at and enjoy.
