Join True Crime author, Garry Knight at Provan Hall for an insight into a perilous time for policing in Scotland: ‘Fatal Duty’ delves into the tragic history of police officers killed on duty in Scotland from 1812 to 1952; and the ‘cop killers’ responsible for this violence. A time when policing was at its most dangerous: constables left patrolling alone at night with only a wooden baton for protection and a whistle to attract assistance if attacked. Knight explores the vulnerability of police officers at the time, the opportunistic traits of ‘cop killers’ and the murky parts of history where officers themselves, by accident or intent have become killers themselves. With curiosity, mystery, intrigue and seeking justice, Knight unpacks a darker side of Scotland’s history. Our book sale is on all day between 11am – 3pm and Garry Knight’s author talk takes place at 2pm in our exhibition room. Attendance is first come first serve, seating available and tea and coffee available to purchase from £1.25.
