Alan Dimmick: Photographic Archive
Alan Dimmick has been photographing Glasgow and beyond since 1977 when he was 16. His archive has grown to around 100,000 images and is ever growing. The work up to the year 2000 has been digitised and catalogued. A selection can be seen on alandimmick.com – This represents about the half way mark.
Alan will be in his studio on the 3rd floor on the 19th September from 11am till 4pm and will have photographs available to view and talk about his work and archive. The reception desk will be open but possibly best to call him on 07785744643 and he can show you upstairs to his studio.

Alan Dimmick bought his first camera (a Russian Zenith) in 1977, the same year that he converted the toilets in his secondary school annex into a darkroom. He went on to study photography at Glasgow College of Building and Printing from 1979–82 and was a founding member of Glasgow Photography Group, exhibiting at their inaugural exhibition in Hillhead Library in 1988.

EXIT is a fully operating DIY, independent and artist run club and arts space which was opened in September 2023. The building on Maxwell St was once home to Fury Murry’s in the late 80s and 90s, and then repurposed into a strip club. The space has a lot of character, with the majority of the strip club interiors remaining largely intact. EXIT has a strong DIY ethos, platforming and growing the local scene and creative community here in Glasgow.
