Walk Around Langside: Untold Stories From World War 2

WALK AROUND LANGSIDE: UNTOLD STORIES FROM WORLD WAR II
Join us for a walking tour through Langside in the 1940’s! Come and hear the untold stories of the people who lived here through World War II, those who saw conflict overseas and on the home front, and the refugees who came to live here. We’ll explore the shops and businesses, the transport modes and systems, schools, places of worship, institutions and the places of entertainment which kept people going through these difficult years and we’ll consider the sights, sounds and smells of a very different Langside to the one we know today. Most of all, we’ll hear the now often hidden stories of the young (and not so young) people who served their country during WWII, with particular emphasis on the individuals who are commemorated on the Battlefield West Church (now Langside Parish Church) war memorial. And bring your own knowledge, stories and family memories too, to add to the growing picture of how Langside has grown and changed over the last 100 years. The walk will take in many familiar Langside locations along with some less well-known places, with lots of stops at the homes of the characters featured in the stories.
