Glasgow Crematorium designed by Glasgow architect James Chalmers , a contemporary of Charles Rennie MacIntosh , was built on ecclesiastical , neo gothic lines to appeal initially to Victorian sensibilites. It is the first crematorium to ever operate in Scotland and effectively it launched the cremation movement in Scotland and continues to this day to contribute legislative change and innovation in cremation services ..Established as a charitable organisation to provide an alternative to the unsantitary burial conditions at the turn of the century , a time of dyptheria , typhoid and scarlet fever, Glasgow crematorium continues to operate uniquely as a charity providing ease of access to dignified funeral services at an affordable cost using state of the art technology and with every consideration taken in customer care and service excellence . Our beautiful stained glass windows , marble works , war centotaphs and columbarium tower exude tradition and depict Glasgow’s rich social history. From poet to pauper ,war hero , Lord and Lady and celebrity clientele we consider ourselves part of Glasgow’s rich tapestry of life as well as building heritage and landscape .

A unique listed building offering individually tailored cremation services in a traditional setting but using state of the art technology . The building is comprised of locally sourced red sandstone and offers architectural features such a cornicing , marble pillars , catafalque and columbarium tower of a quality comparable to that used in creating Glasgow City Chambers. It also has an affiliation with the masonic order in it’s design , what we lightly refer to as our Dan Brown moment .
