Many people ‘know’ this grand building on University Avenue with its Corinthian columns but few have entered its sacred portals. Now is your chance to see the peaceful, elegant interior.
It is a place of active Christian worship and has been since 1884. So you will be welcome to come for the Church service on Sunday 17 September at 11am. But the doors will be officially open for DOORS OPEN VISITORS who will be welcomed from 1pm.
See the vast gallery and fine wooden pews capable of seating more than 900 people.
Hear the Forster & Andrews of Hull organ (installed in 1884 and subsequently adapted)
Delight in the beautiful embroideries of Hannah Frew Paterson designed when she lectured at Glasgow School of Art. The first was created to mark the 100th anniversary of the church in 1984. Two others followed and all are in regular use.
Finish with a cuppa in the famous Crypt Cafe – known to generations of students as a home from home for good, inexpensive food and nice people to talk with.
And get a glimpse of the other Christian churches which worship in Wellington.

Doors Open event 2023 is a ‘test run’ by Wellington Church’s Celebrations Sub Committee which is charged with organising how to mark major anniversaries in 2024:-
140 years since the Church opened and the Forster & Andrews of Hull organ first played.
50 years since Woodlands Church congregation very happily joined Wellington.
40 years since Hannah Frew Paterson’s first beautiful pulpit fall was used. Two more followed and are in regular use.
20 years since the INTERNATIONAL WELCOME CLUB started
10 years since the English Language Conversation Corner started.

Fine late-Renaissance style church, with a 150-ft campanile, domed crossing and ornate marble-lined interior and painted ceiling.. Wonderfully restored. Now is the time to visit this beautiful gem.
The Revelator is Scotland’s only fully functioning Wall of Death, Clydebuilt with love by a group of dedicated volunteers. Handmade mainly out of recycled wood and wholly funded by public donations.
