Camphill Gate

Camphill Gate
Camphill Gate in the Southside of Glasgow is a B listed, 5 storey tenement building comprising of 24 flats and 12 businesses including the Glad Cafe. Built in 1906, the property has several unique features, the most impressive of which is a communal roof garden that serves the three glazed cupola stairwells. The roof works amazingly well and as a result there is a really good community spirit. In the summer, you will find us all up there, growing vegetables, BBQing and kids playing. We know not only the neighbours in our close but in all three closes, which is quite unique. Sadly in 2013, the building was in need of major repair. The owners grouped together to save it and in 2016 started to hold a series of roof top events including music, film, yoga and art. In collaboration with the City Council and the Glasgow City Heritage Trust a full £1.4m refurbishment project started in 2021 and completed earlier this year. We are therefore delighted to welcome visitors back and to thank them for all the support they gave us. Our conservation Architect, Fiona Sinclair, will be giving a talk about the project on Saturday 21st at 1:30pm.

EXIT
EXIT is a fully operating DIY, independent and artist run club and arts space which was opened in September 2023. The building on Maxwell St was once home to Fury Murry’s in the late 80s and 90s, and then repurposed into a strip club. The space has a lot of character, with the majority of the strip club interiors remaining largely intact. EXIT has a strong DIY ethos, platforming and growing the local scene and creative community here in Glasgow.
