EXIT

IMG_3579
EXIT is a fully operating DIY, independent and artist run club and arts space which was opened in September 2023. The building on Maxwell St was once home to Fury Murry’s in the late 80s and 90s, and then repurposed into a strip club. The space has a lot of character, with the majority of the strip club interiors remaining largely intact. EXIT has a strong DIY ethos, platforming and growing the local scene and creative community here in Glasgow. As well as regularly bringing international acts and forward thinking programming to the city. The future of the building is uncertain as it is in significant disrepair and has been at risk, and in the process of being demolished and repurposed into a hotel or apartments for quite some time now. As well as EXIT located in the basement, the building is also home to an artistic community of a large number of working artist studios. Figures from the Night Time Industries Association showed a 40% decline in UK independent nightclubs in the last four years. 67 nightclubs closed their doors in the first quarter of 2024, 48 of those were independently run. With spaces like ours becoming increasingly rare, our underground cultures and communities suffer. The importance of the spaces we have is more than ever. We will be opening our doors and the bar for members of the public and Glasgow Open Doors Festival goers to come and visit the space, ask questions, engage in conversation, and see a working venue from 2pm – 10pm on Saturday 21st September. Come and say hello. EXIT
