Tobacco Merchant’s House, 42 Miller Street

Tobacco Merchant's House, 42 Miller Street
Come and see the headquarters of the national Doors Open Days festival! Built in 1775 as the family home of John Craig, who then sold it to Robert Findlay, a tobacco Merchant whom the building is named after. After two hundred years as a both a home and multiple businesses and then an abandoned building, the building was fully restored in the 1990’s and became the base of the Scottish Civic Trust in 1995. Come along to see historical and archaeological artefacts, learn about the research into the history of the building, and see how we are using the past to create a new future for Tobacco Merchant’s House. There will also be a book and cake sale taking place throughout the day.

EXIT is a fully operating DIY, independent and artist run club and arts space which was opened in September 2023. The building on Maxwell St was once home to Fury Murry’s in the late 80s and 90s, and then repurposed into a strip club. The space has a lot of character, with the majority of the strip club interiors remaining largely intact.
