Collective Architecture: An Exclusive Open Studio Tour

Albert Chambers, 13 Bath Street
Step Inside Collective Architecture: An Exclusive Open Studio Tour Discover the heart of one of Scotland’s most acclaimed architectural practices at Collective Architecture’s ‘Working’ studio tour. Recognised with national and international awards, our studio invites you to experience the creative process behind our celebrated work. Located on the 4th floor of Albert Chambers—a imposing Category B listed Free Renaissance commercial building—our studio is a hidden gem within the Bath Street streetscape. Since moving here in 2020, we’ve transformed this historic space into a vibrant hub of innovation, complete with collaboration zones, a canteen, model-making facilities, and a versatile ‘town hall’ event space. Join us on Doors Open Day, where you’ll get a rare glimpse into our daily operations. During our two “Open Studio” sessions, you’ll explore our studio, see where the magic happens in our model-making facilities, and visit our meeting rooms and exhibition space. Each tour ends with light refreshments and a chance to ask your burning questions about architecture and the building itself. An opportunity to witness the behind-the-scenes buzz of a working studio.

ORGANISATION
Organised by: Collective Architecture
Collective Architecture was established to pursue themes of participation and sustainability in architecture. Our output is highly varied, ranging from intimate community installations to large scale urban regeneration. Over the past 26 years we have successfully delivered a series of important projects spread across the UK. Working internationally with private and public clients, we consider all projects unique, regardless of size or budget, and capable of providing a source of identity for place, organisation or individual. The company is owned by an employee run trust established to reward and further involve staff in practice development. Ownership by all brings care and commitment to every aspect of our work. Our ethos encourages individuals to express themselves and research issues which are of relevance to both their work and to the wider society. This has resulted in our architects developing specialist knowledge, accreditation and qualifications, to achieve a range of crucial skills. We share that information and encourage discussion through events, forum, publications and we are active within a number of important institutions. Many of our staff teach, lecture and guest at schools of architecture in the UK and throughout Europe. We consider each project special and develop an approach to suit that project’s need and potential. From the outset we explore all the elements of architecture through collaborative workshops and the use of three dimensional media. This leads to well crafted buildings that contribute to happiness and wellbeing over a prolonged period of time. Our work has been widely published and exhibited in Glasgow, London, Barcelona, the Chicago Athenaeum and the Venice Biennale. We have also been recognised with many national and international awards including AJ ‘Architect of the Year ‘2018 in recognition of our architectural achievements at a UK level.
